An excuse to end the year in the noisiest way imagineable at a gig headlined by
Bradford thrashers Lowlife UK
with support from rail-crazed Midlands outfit Eastfield and an appearence by Sick56 who comprise of
Nige and Boothy ex-of the Pink Torpedoes.
What times were the bands on at ?
As below .. ..
Band: |
Time: |
Lowlife UK |
21.50 - 22.45 |
Eastfield |
20.50 - 21.40 |
Sick 56 | 20.00 - 20.40 |
And how did it all go ?
It all went pretty well I thought after a patchy start regarding
equipment, something that was later to rear its ugly head big style at the
follow-up gig in the New Year.
First off the mark were Sick56 from Blackpool way playing not much more than a
debut gig. Far from being an inexperienced bunch, the lads have considerable
performing experience between them and had interestingly waited some time
before playing live, preferring instead to concentrate on toning up their debut
material. You can now get (I believe) their LP 'Recipe for disaster' which
(from memory) is pretty well what they played that evening in its entirity.
The album is pretty solid and the material came across really well during the
performance, it was certainly well worth the investment of time that had been
put into it, considering the number of pretty dire bands that there are
knocking about, I was pretty glad I had managed to get this lot to play.
I always thought that exercise was good for you ? It has to be said that
looking at Jessi from Eastfield would have been enough to make anyone else
think otherwise, the poor bloke was hopping around on crutches after an injury
caused by playing football ! Still, not letting that get in the way of things,
our hero performed the entire gig with his leg supported on a chair and still
managing to play the gutar as well, no mean feat I would have thought ?
Eastfield are one of the more 'right on' bands have have put on and it's good
to have people who aren't the usual run of the mill racket-merchants,
thoughtful lyrics and catchy tunes abound. You will note that I have
tactfully hidden all signs of injury from the photgraphs !
Anyone familar with my previous gigs will know my predeliction for giving
Lowlife the spot where the band gets to say goodbye to the cleaners (ie:
first). Of course this is the position no-one wants and the lads have embraced
my requests to play it well, all credit to 'em. Here we were at last with a
suitable reward for their efforts, their own headline gig and a well-deserved
one too. Very sadly, this was drummer 'Disco' Dave's last ever show and a real
shame too, he's a nice guy and a bloody good drummer, I hope that he enjoys his
new life 'darn sarth'.
Unfortunately, I couldn't stretch to supplying Cristal for the rider so the
guys had to make do with Babycham instead, I nearly choked on it whilst taking
a swig, but Beaker was certainly enjoying it, makes a nice way of getting rid
of the taste of Buckfast that they sell downstairs I suppose. The lads
played really well and I certainly look forward to putting the band on again.
