M.D.M, Apocalypse Babys & Lowlife UK:

Three bands actively promoted worldwide by NjHindley.Com

  • So what's all this about then ?

As I guess you can see, I have been involved in the Punk Rock scene for some time now, either doing web promotion for Peter & the Test Tube Babies and GBH for over five years now or more recently, putting on gigs of my own over the last three years or so. I guess you could say that one thing just led to another.

I have used some time available to do something that has been on the back of my mind for a while now and that is to do a bit of pushing and promoting on behalf of some well-deserving bands that I have had the pleasure to work with.

There are three particular bands that I want to get a bit more noticed, that's not to say that they haven't collectively been around for a while anyway but you can't reach everyone worldwide and so I consider that using this medium is a good tool publicity-wise.

The three bands in question all already have web-sites which can be accessed by following the links. M.D.M, Lowlife uk and the Apocalypse Babys.

What I want to do here is present my own independent opinion of the band activities and recordings, what we are after primarily is exposure and ultimately, some gigs for the bands wherever we can get them.

  • Why would you bother doing this for a band ?

Music is a hard business and anything to do with Punk Rock in Britain is even worse ! I look at pictures of say for example GBH playing abroad and some of the gigs are abolutely packed out with large crowds. By contrast, live music in this country is extremely hard to promote, a small gig may only draw 30-40 punters and it becomes very hard to even make them pay the venue dues, let alone pay the bands. I have written much already on the subject and I am not going to re-tread old ground.

I never have been interested in being a musician and I guess like the majority, I was simply content to buy the records and see bands as and when I got the chance. As I said before, I have ended up doing a number of shows of various sizes and at the minute, any further ones are on hold.

I am using the time therefore to use a bit of influence to demonstrate the talents of my three favourite 'live' acts, well ok bands with whom I have done business and feel very comfortable in sticking my neck out to say that they are worth seeing, and believe me,I don't do this lightly for anyone. If you ask me why I am doing this, it's because I consider them to be flexible and worth putting my trust in to do a good job live, besides of course the fact that they sound good.

Here we are then with the lowdown, download the MP3's, give 'em a listen and send in your feedback using the form below and I will pass it on to the bands, if you have any gigs / tours available then let us know. Thanks for your time.

The Apocalypse Babys have been around for about ten years now and have managed to record a reasonable amount of material. There really is no typical sound for this band, indeed, the two tracks available here 'Too old to dance' and 'Local hero' sound quite hard-edged compared to the likes of say 'Stars up in the sky' from their last studio LP 'Vive le Rock 'n Roll' but don't read anything into this. In case you didn't know (and it's a fairly open 'secret'), the band have had a fair number of line-up changes at times but the current moment sees an incarnation based on founder member and lead vocalist 'Asterix' backed-up by bassist Dutch and drummer Kev, and very good they sound too.

The bands' original release, '3 Chords to heaven' mapped out a pattern in song-writing that they have kept to fairly consistently throughout the release of four albums ie: a mixture of the hard and the soft to good effect, as I said before, it's quite hard to say what the 'typical' Apoc Babys song sounds like but there are a large number of their songs that really stick in my head, a band whose recordings area well worth getting your hands on.

New Apocalypse Babys CD Release - '7 Inch Plus'Next Apocalypse Babys CD Release - 'Alcoholacaust'

Alcoholacaust Released Friday September 17th, 2004

The Apocalypse Babys are very pleased to announce that we have now released 'Alocholacaust', cover as featured above (yes it has the wrong spelling, it's been updated since I made that particular image). This is the first new studio album from the band in 5 years (not their fault). To cut a long story short, we shelved the release of the original tracks intended for ths album (these will appear elsewhere so don't worry), and recorded a brand new album with 'New boys' Jools & Kev on guitar and drums respectively.

The album sounds a lot heavier than the usual Babys' releases but still retains that vital element of versatility as you'll see when you hear 'Reggae Maan' and 'Invasion'. We know that plenty of people download from this page so here's a taster for you. It was a difficult choice but in the end I plumped for making 'Mental Breakldown' available here as it combines all of elements of the bands' trademark sound whilst also being pretty fast and in-yer'-face too. I think that this album will please fans old & new alike.

    - Alcoholacaust - Track listing:

    1Instrumental 2Bad reputation 3A.W.O.L 4Punk lite 5Ain't my kind of people
    6Reggae Maan 7Mental breakdown 8Guantanamo Bay 9Invasion 10Let's jump the broomstick

    Local Hero

    It's a sad sight, crisps 'n' pints
    and 'local' entertainers.
He used to spin his records and mime along
and swore one day to be famous.
Sure, everyone wants to see their name in lights,
but it's a long long way to Vegas !

    He's a Local Hero,
in his mind he's a superstar.
    Local Hero,
playing for the glory and free drinks,
    down the local bar !

He sent tapes to the record companies
but didn't get no luck there.
So all his hopes and dreams disappeared,
    along with his hair.
Now he performs his cabaret act
in a pair of sequined flares !

    (Brat (c) 1997)

    Too Old Too Dance

He pulls on his boots and tatty jacket,
    it's only uniform he's got.
He's gonna blow his whole wage packet,
'cos gigs are few these days and hell, why not ?

You'll always find him propping up the bar when any punk show hits town.
Until the band take the stage and then any second now .. we'll shout !

You're too fucking old to dance,
but hey, this could be your last chance,
And we can see your underpants as you're rolling round the floor.

This is what we call anarchy,
    we're growing old disgracefully.
Eh, it's just like the 70s ! .... crying out for more !

He drops his pint and jumps in the crowd
and with no sense of embarrassment strips off his shirt.
Tonight he'll dance as long as they can play,
tomorrow you'll have to take a day off work ! ... cos you hurt !

When you're surfing on a sea of bodies with your trousers at half mast.
It's so easy to forget your age .... but the bruises don't fade so fast.

    (Brat (c) 2002)

    Mini Mafia

We got baseball bats in the boot of the car
And one wrong look is all it would take
Everyone gangway as we enter the bar
We got a reputation to make
    I'm a 'Wannabe' Al Pachino
The rings on my fingers look so cheap
Tory economics breed a new kind of hero.
Drug dealing on the street !

    We're the 'Mini Mafia' !

In broad daylight we beat the shit out of some old guy
Who dared to ask why we'd burgled his house and set it alight ?
In a pool of blood he was left to die
The police are powerless to arrest
No one comes forward as a witness
    Everybody looking out for themselves
So no one answers cries for help

Just one step closer to the American nightmare !

    We're, we're the Mini Mafia
    We're, we're the Mini Mafia
    We're, we're the Mini Mafia
    We're, we're the Mini Mafia

    (Brat/Hippy (c) 1994)

    Live Fast, Die Young

    I got a Rickenbacker guitar
    And an attitude
    A full bottle
And I live by my own rules
    I'm well loaded
I kill myself every Saturday night
And if you have to ask
    You'll just get this reply..

    1 I'm only having fun
    2 what's it to you?
    3 I'm bored let's all get drunk !

    Live Fast Die Young !

    You can't steal my heart
    Coz I don't have one!
    Call me what you like
But you'll miss me when I'm gone !
    It's a suicide mission
All the real punks are dead ?
    A bittersweet memory.
    And a gravestone, which read.

    (Brat (c) 1989)
