G.B.H. & CIRCLE JERKS
The Masquerade
Tampa, Florida
7/10/03

This was a show truly not to be missed. Two of the most infuential old school
punk bands ever, on the road together. There were two opening bands. The Bronx,
and The Missing 23rd. I wasn't familiar with either of these bands, so there
really isn't a whole lot I can say about them. I can tell you this though, they
were both pretty damn good. Really fast and hard punk and better than a lot of
newer bands I've heard lately.

Around 10pm Circle Jerks walked out to a packed house of old and young punks.
After a brief talking to from Mr. Morris, they started the set with "I Don't".
The crowd started up a huge circle pit right away, and kept it going through
most of the set. These guys still play with a hell of a lot of energy, despite
their age. The crowd was just insane with people leaping around and
disregarding security by trying to stage dive. Greg Hetson must have leaped
into the air 100 times and Keith Morris was as active as I've ever. seen him. I
saw Circle Jerks countless times in the eighties. The last time I saw them was
in 1990. There's only been 3 or 4 tours since then, and I've never been around
when they came through town. Watching them tonight more than made up for the
past 13 years. Their set list included "Coup D' Etat, Beat Me Sensless, Wild In
The Streets, When The Shit Hits The Fan, I Wanna Destroy You, Deny Everything,
In Your Eyes" and tons more. They even surprised me with a few really obscure
older tracks, "Stars And Stripes, and Trapped". The set ended with "Nervous
Breakdown" and that was it.

It looked like the entire crowd stayed put for GBH. The place was still very,
very packed. They ran into some technical difficulties right away when a stage
diver tripped over Jock's guitar cord, ripping it out of the amp. For some
reason they just couldn't get it to work again. The first 2 songs were played
without any guitar as the rest of the band just raged on. Colin was all over
the place as usual. That guy hasn't aged a bit. Their set was very lengthy, and
included lots of old favorites and some tracks off the new Ha Ha record. Their
set included "Gimme Fire, Generals, No Survivors, Diplomatic Immunity, Punk
Rock Ambulance, Drugs Party, Womb With A View, Time Bomb" and the list just
goes on and one. I'm positive they played over 30 songs. Just as always, they
kept everyone on their toes. Never a dull moment with GBH. The encores included
"Big Women" and of course "Alcohol". A fantastic punk show for sure.
